What to Watch for in Textile

  • Natural gas burned for steam on dyeing and finishing lines is usually the largest item; read the boiler house meter separately.
  • Spinning and weaving machines run continuously, so electricity use varies little by season; a twelve-month average is reliable.
  • If you outsource dyeing or washing, that facility's energy belongs in your Scope 3 and is not included in this calculation.

What data do I need for this calculation?

Your monthly natural gas, fuel and electricity invoices are enough. Use a twelve-month average if you can; a single month can be misleading because of seasonal effects.

What does this calculation cover and not cover?

It covers only Scope 1 (fuel you burn yourself) and Scope 2 (electricity you buy). Scope 3 items such as raw materials, logistics, waste and employee commuting, as well as refrigerant leaks, are not included.

Where do the factors come from?

Fuel factors are from IPCC and DEFRA; for electricity the Türkiye grid emission factor is used. All factors and their sources are listed on the References page.
